African Bollywood

On 25th September 2004 the Academy launched its new production AFRICAN BOLLYWOOD at the Great Hall Wits University. Dr. Vinod Hasal steered away from his Classical choreography to give way to the Bollywood Fever which has got the country by fire.

The difference in this theme for the Academy was that we had many of the items performed by the Black dancers as the name suggests “AFRICAN”. The dancers danced to tunes from the Golden yester years of the famous stars like Saigal., Kishore Kumar, Dilip Kumar,Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bacchan , to many recent Hits of Aamir Khan, Sharukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, and many more. The dancers amazed the audience with their energy .The show was a multi racial one with all the colours of Africa fitting in to the choreography. It was an exciting experience for all involved in the production. As the M.C and Stand Up comedian we had the very popular Ms. Kreejay Govender adding a few laughs truly South African Bollywood style.

Rang Pravesh in Classical Kathak

The term “RANG PRAVESH” means a colourful entry. This is the term given to a Graduation in Classical Kathak Dance just like Graduation in Bharat Natyam is called Arangetram. Before the Rang Pravesh is held a ceremony called the Ganda Ceremony is performed where the Guru is worshipped by the disciples and a sacred thread is tied on his/her hands as a symbol of awe and reverence. The Guru in turn also ties the thread on the disciples hands promising him/her that all the knowledge he has he will impart to the disciple without holding anything back. This is the first ever Rang Pravesh in Johannesburg and Pretoria under the able guidance of Dr. Vinod Hasal and his father and Guru Acharya Ganesh Hiralal Hasal Ji. 14 of the senior disciples of the RADHA KRISHNA ACADEMY OF DANCE AND MUSIC got graduated in the month of September after training under the tutelage of Dr. Vinod Hasal for the past 6 years. They trained extensively for 6 weeks for 4-6 hours a day with Dr. Vinod Hasal, his father and Guru Acharya Ganesh Hiralal Hasal Ji and brother Pt. Umesh Hasal Ji who were flown down from India especially for the ceremonies. This is the first time ever that the dancers performed to live enchanting music which the audience could only have heard and seen if they were in India. The Academy at present has arround 36 graduates (Classical Kathak & Folk dances of India)  all over south africa conducting and teaching dance in his purest form (Jaipur Gharana)
